We love a bit of smoothie here at OG and the usual response from people who see our 'Heavenly Green Smoothie' recipe card is "ewwwww" haha until they try it of course. The look on their faces when they realise that actually it tastes great could be a blog post all of its own.
So can we tempt you with a bit of chocolate in your smoothie this time? It's fair to say that when we think of chocolate it is usually the kind that is full of sugar and categorised into those foods that are frowned upon to eat. But did you know that chocolate in it's raw form 'cacao' is one of the top super foods? Here's why: It is packed full of antioxidants, with more antioxidants per weight than acacia or red wine (red wine smoothie anyone?). Helps with the old grey matter by enhancing cognitive performance. It also makes us feel good as it is rich in the building blocks that are used to release one of natures feel good chemicals. Very rich in vitamin C and Magnesium, and lots of studies have shown it is beneficial to our cardiovascular health too.
There are endless possibilities of smoothie recipes so go ahead and get creative in the kitchen, in the meantime here is one that we prepared earlier...
- 350ml Rice milk (you can use almond milk for added protein)
- Generous handful of frozen berries
- 1 ripe banana
- 1-2 tbsp of cacao powder
- 1 tbsp chia seeds (omega-3 rich little gems)
- 1 tsp of cinnamon (keeps your energy levels and moods stable - your friends will thank you for it)
- (If you prefer a sweeter option add some honey to taste)
Blend all the ingredients till smooth. Enjoy!
